It’s worth remembering that Botox, Azzalure and other anti-wrinkle treatments don’t work the second they are injected.
Indeed, careful aftercare is often as important as the treatment itself. So here is cosmetic Couture’s guide to anti-wrinkle treatment aftercare.
After your treatment of Botox, Azzalure, Bocoture or other anti-wrinkle treatment it’s up to you to make sure everything heals quickly and to avoid anything than might disrupt the work you’ve just had done.
Try not to rub your face.
This is probably the most important step, the cardinal rule of aftercare. Rubbing the skin could move the anti-wrinkle treatment into areas you don’t want it. It can have adverse effects on the wrong muscles and may even lessen the effectiveness of the initial treatment.
After your procedure, avoid rubbing your face for the rest of the day and don’t get any kind of face massage for at least 24 hours.
Using an ice pack can be an effective alternative to rubbing the affected area, and can reduce signs of swelling and bruising. And using an ice pack will also help to minimise any pain.
If you are suffering any pain some strong medications and other tablets can have a damaging effect after the treatment.
You should stay away from anything that can thin the blood. This includes: Aspirin, Ibuprofen, Exedrin, St. John’s Wart, Vitamin E, Fish oil, Omega-3s and Ginseng. Ideally you will not have taken any of this medication for a week prior to your treatment, and will continue to avoid them until everything has healed up. Paracetamol tablets are fine and may provide some pain relief. Just make sure you avoid all the types of medication list above.
Avoid taking any hot showers or baths for the first few hours following your treatment.
Too much heat can increase your blood pressure, increasing the blood flow to the treated area. You should also avoid using a sauna, steam room or sun-bed for three to four days.
Also treatments spreading to other muscles such as the eyelids is a problem. This can be prevented by making sure you don’t lean forward too sharply right after your treatment. For the same reason, it’s also better not to lie down for four to five hours.
Stay upright as long as you can.
And talking of staying upright, if you drink too much alcohol, it can lead to increased fluid retention. That’s the skin holding too much fluid, which you certainly don’t want after Botox. If this happens, it can lead to more bruising or swelling.
Do seek medical attention if you experience any adverse side-affects.
Avoid strenuous exercise could cause the Botox, Azzalure, Bocouture or other product to move around, which is something you want to avoid.
And avoid non-mineral based makeup for at least 12 hours.
Importantly for about a week avoid skin manipulation treatments. This includes laser hair removal, electrolysis and microdermabrasion which could cause the Botox to move out of place.
Aftercare is one of the most important parts of your service, and if you’re unsatisfied with your results or feel like you need more treatment then don’t hesitate to book a follow up or additional appointment.
Remember that any complications are very rare, as only small amounts of Botox are injected at a
time.
